The Parks and Recreation Commission consists of five members, each member serving a maximum of 2 four-year terms. The Commission has the authority and responsibility to:
- act in an advisory capacity to the Council in all matters pertaining to recreation and parks
- consider provisions of the annual budget for recreation and park purposes during the process of the preparation of the budget and make recommendations with respect thereto the City Manager and the Council
- assist in the planning of a recreation program for the inhabitants of the City, promote and stimulate public interests therein, and to that end, solicit to the fullest extent possible the cooperation of school authorities and other public and private agencies therein
- accept money, personal property or real estate donated to the City for recreation or park purposes, subject to the approval of the Council
- act as the Urban Forestry Board and hear appeals for heritage tree issues and render a decision and make recommendations on street tree issues
