AFTER SCHOOL
Library Teen Zone
Newly re-designed area of the Library dedicated to teens. Space includes new books, new media, new magazines, internet access, tables for group study and lounge seating ringing the fireplace. Teen Open Gym
Activities include basketball, volleyball and/or soccer, whiffle ball, dance, Ping-Pong, music, special events, etc.

Unofficial Homework/Research Center
Students seek skill instruction and homework help. Staff assists with homework as time permits.

CAMPS
Tennis Sports Camp
Emphasis of this half-day camp covers the basics of tennis, including: forehand, backhand, serve and volley through drilling and game situations. Players will also participate in complementary sports like soccer and Ultimate Frisbee. Lunch is provided. Theater in the Park
Two-week theater camps focusing on theater games and skills offered in conjunction with Peninsula Youth Theatre. The end-of-camp performances are held at Park Stage.

Youth Sports Camps
Week-long sessions focusing on skill development and fun in baseball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, street hockey, flag football, or multi-sport.

Deer Hollow Farm
Deer Hollow Farm is a working homestead and educational center where school classes, community groups and families can observe, explore and participate in a family farm.

Aquatics Jobs

Groundhog Job Shadowing Day
Coordinate participation in the nation-wide Junior Achievement event, bringing local youth in to shadow City employees at their job sites. Employees conduct activities to clearly demonstrate job skills and their corresponding educational requirements.

Mayor's Youth Conference
Day-long conference for Mountain View youth sponsored by the Mayor, the Youth Advisory Group and City staff. This annual event includes guest speakers, small group activities and large group activities built around a particular theme. The conference provides an opportunity for youth to learn new skills and share their thoughts with City Council Members and other community leaders.

LESSONS
Swim Lessons
The City of Mountain View is an American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program with some additional enhancements to provide the highest quality of swim instruction available. Our classes are taught by qualified and Lifeguard Training-certified instructors. Classes may have volunteers or aides assigned to help increase the attention and practice your child receives. Lessons are tailored to age and skill level. Golf Lessons
Shoreline Golf Links offers clinics and classes for youth ages 8 to 17 years.

Tennis Lessons
Tennis lessons for players of all ages and levels are provided through the City of Mountain View Recreation Department. Participants must furnish their own tennis racquets and wear tennis shoes.

LIBRARY SERVICES
Summer Reading A reading incentive program for independent readers, including a separate component for teens. Funded by the Friends of the Library.

OUTREACH
D.A.R.E. Program The D.A.R.E. Program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is an anti-alcohol, anti-drug, gang and violence program designed by Mountain View Officers with a primary focus on drug education. The D.A.R.E. Program is taught by School Resource Officers at the fourth through seventh grade levels at Mountain View schools.

Enforcement of gang-related issues through the Police Department's Field Operations Division. Officers address gang-related issues, providing prevention, intervention and enforcement services. Service includes verbal counseling with youth and parents as needed, presentation to parents regarding signs of gang activities and other outreach.

Firesetting Intervention
Service designed to educate and inform youth identified as fire-setters or demonstrating other fire-related risk behaviors.

Mountain View Youth Corps
Program whereby disadvantaged youth are employed during the summer in various maintenance projects; i.e., trail building, restorations, etc.

School Resources Officers
Two full-time Police Officers who make contact with schools (teachers, administrators and students). The individual serves as a counselor, friend and Officer and coordinates youth diversion programs and gang/crisis intervention and citizenship. Also responsible for teaching the D.A.R.E. program.

RECREATION
Recreation Swim
Individuals and families may purchase day or season passes to enjoy recreational swimming at Rengstorff and Eagle Pools. Children under 48 inches tall must be accompanied in the pool by an adult.

Skate Park
The Skate Park is a non-supervised facility reserved exclusively or skaters age 12 and under from 9:30—11:30 a.m. All skaters must wear helmets, kneepads and elbow pads. All bikes (including BMX bikes) and scooters are prohibited at this facility.

VOLUNTEERING

Junior Lifeguard
Teens, ages 13 to 17, who have completed the Water Safety Instructor Aide course can volunteer as Junior Lifeguards and assist in teaching children aquatic safety skills.

Police Explorer ProgramExplorer post through Boy Scouts of America. Supervised by a Police Officer. Youth who are possibly considering law enforcement as a career assist with traffic and traffic control at festivals, concerts, and other special events, also assist in the inventory of police cars, etc.

City of Mountain View Volunteer Services
The City of Mountain View Volunteer Services program provides volunteer opportunities in City departments, for City projects and events and can refer individuals to outside community groups that offer volunteer options.Some positions may have age limits but some are open to youth.
