Alzheimer's Screenings

Free behavioral screenings offered on the fourth Wednesday of each month. PLEASE NOTE: This screening is not a medical screening, only a behavioral analysis.

Blood Pressure Check

First, second and third Friday of each month, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Provided by volunteer nurses.

Eyeglass Repair

Free eyeglasses adjustments, repairs, and general advice every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Call (650) 903-6330 for an appointment.

Hearing Screening

Second Tuesday of each month. Call (650) 903-6330 for an appointment. Provided by Professor David Tang.

HICAP

Medical insurance, long-term care, Medicaid, & Medigap counseling. Call (650) 903-6330 for an appointment.

Podiatry Screening

Third Wednesday of each month. Call (650) 903-6330 for an appointment. Provided by Dr. Yavrom.

Vial of Life

The Vial of Life kit enables emergency responders to quickly locate helpful information regarding your medical history. Emergency responders, firefighters, paramedics, and police are trained to look for the Vial of Life sticker and obtain information from the Vial. The kits are available at the front desk.

DMV Driving Test Study Materials

Copies of the California Driver's Handbook and the Senior Guide for Safe Driving are available at the front counter of the Senior Center.

Handicap Access

Modifications made to homes due to disability. Service is provided to low-income, disabled tenants or homeowners. Call (408) 971-0888.

Home Repair

Free minor home repairs to low income Mtn. View homeowners. Call the “Handyworker” program at (650) 305-0599.

Homeowners' and Renters' Assistance

Appointments are available during the months of May-October to file for homeowners' and renters' assistance programs. Please call the Senior Center for more information and an appointment at (650) 903-6330.

Housing Hints

“Where to Live, A Guide for Older Adults” is available for $8.00 (add $2.50 if mailed) from Avenidas. Call (650) 289-5433.

Senior Home Repair

Low cost handyman services to Mountain View homeowners 60+ years. Services include electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, yard cleaning, and installation of safety & security devices. Call (650) 289-5426. Offered by Avenidas.

Matches jobs to people 50+ years, no fee. Call (408) 730-7368. Offered by Proven People.

Senior Adult Legal Assistance (SALA)

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursday of each month. Call (650) 903-6330 for an appointment. Clients must be 60+ years and a Santa Clara County resident. Services provided by volunteer attorneys or paralegal personnel. Legal assistance provided for social security, medicare, housing, landlord issues, power of attorney for health care, elder abuse, consumer
problems and simple wills.

Senior Services Directory Available

The Council on Aging has developed a Senior Services Directory for Santa Clara County. This directory offers resources for seniors, family members and caregivers. All services are listed by category, which makes it very easy to use. A sample is available to view at the front desk. This directory is available at the Senior Center for $5.00. We have a limited amount, so get your copy today.

Senior Case Manager

Consultation with seniors & families regarding life changes. Case manager available, drop-in basis, first Friday of each month, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Provided by Community Services Agency, (650) 968-0836.

Tax Preparation Assistance

During the months of February, March and April volunteers from AARP will be at the Senior Center to assist with Federal and State Tax returns. Please call the Senior Center at (650) 903-6330 for an appointment. Space is limited, and an appointment is necessary.

Food Services

Brown Bag

Brown bag pick-up is every Tuesday, 9:30 -10:45 a.m. Pre-registration is necessary. Please see the front desk for more information or visit the Brown Bag program on Tuesday, between 9:30— 10:45 a.m. Sponsored by the Second Harvest Food Bank. For more information, please call 1-800-984-3663.

Meals on Wheels

Weekly delivery of meals is available to homebound seniors 60+ years. Participant donation suggested. Call Council on Aging at (408) 269-8290 or the Wealth Trust at (408) 961-9870.

Nutrition Program

Lunch is served Monday-Friday at noon, sign in by 11:30 a.m.. Suggested donation is $2.00 for those individuals 60+. For information, call (650) 964-6586. Sponsored by Community Services Agency.

Transportation

VTA & Caltrain

Valley Bus and train schedules are available for pick-up in the lobby of the Senior Center.

VTA Transit Discount Cards/Stickers

VTA will be at the Senior Center on the first Thursday of each month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. to accept applications for discount cards. Seniors 65+ years or persons with qualifying disabilities are eligible. There is a $3 fee. Bring legal proof of age. Also, a limited number of discount stickers go on sale on the 15th of each month. Tickets are sold Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., $20.00 each. We can only accept cash, and exact change is required.

Outreach Transportation Agency

Outreach Transportation Agency provides rides for qualified applicants who are unable to use public transit. Must apply to Outreach. Call 1-800-400-6222.

The #35 bus stops at the corner of California & Escuela Ave. weekdays at 8:21, 9:20, 10:19, 11:19 am, 12:21, 1:21 & 2:20 from Mtn. View Transportation Center on Castro & Evelyn Ave. Please note that as of January 14, 2008, some routes and times will be changing. Please call VTA at (408) 321-2300 or use the convenient Trip Planner.

Roadrunners

Rides are provided for within 10 miles of El Camino Hospital on weekdays, 8:00-3:45 p.m. Fee based on miles driven. Call (650) 940-7016. Sponsored by El Camino Hospital.

Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate is available for 25¢.

Computer Lab

Fifteen PCs are available for internet use in the Technology Center.

Exercise Equipment

A variety of equipment is available in the Exercise Room. Orientation is required before use and is offered on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday afternoons each week. Please call 650-903-6330 and always remember to consult a physician before beginning an exercise program.

Movies and Books on Tape

Donated videos, DVDs & audio books can be checked out for one week, free of charge.

Gain key health knowledge in the comfort of your own home! The Camino Medical Group's Health DVD's are now availabe to check-out for a period of one week. Topics include Sleep Apnea, Skin Cancer, Nasal Allergies, Health Insurance, Arthritis and You, Eye Health, Osteoporosis, Vascular Health, Managing High Blood Pressure, Foot Health, Cholesterol, and Thyroid Disease.


Paperback Book Library

Donated paperback books are available for 10¢ each. Please pay at the front desk.

Services Binder

The Service Binder contains employment listings, items for sale, and housing information. Please stop by the front desk to view the binder.

Stamps and Mail

A maximum of five 42¢ postage stamps can be purchased at the front counter. There is also an outgoing mail basket.
