Course Information

History
Shoreline Golf Links opened for play in 1983. It was remodeled in 1986-1987 to achieve the feel and character of a links-type course. The City of Mountain View has operated the course as a municipal course since December 1995. There has been a significant capital investment in the course's infrastructure since that time. New subsurface drainage, a new computer-controlled irrigation system and large areas of new turf were added in 1999 and 2000.

Over the years, several greens have been rebuilt with design input from the original golf course architect. The night lighting and enhancement of practice facilities have also taken place under the City's management of the course. A new pro shop and cart storage facility was completed in 2005.

The Black (Championship) Tees play to 7,029 yards, a 74.6 course rating and slope of 130. Play from the Black Tees is limited to players with a verifiable index of 5.6 or lower.

High Maintenance Standards
The course is maintained at high standards by the golf course superintendent and an experienced maintenance crew. The mowing heights of putting greens are generally set at 1/8", which ordinarily produces green speeds of 9.0 - 10.0 on the Stimpmeter. The greens are relatively large, averaging about 6,500 square feet in size, and there are a few tiered greens. Mowing heights are: 3/8" for aprons, 1/2" for tees, 1/2" for fairways. The fairways are generally reasonably wide, averaging around 33 yards wide. There also is a 6' wide intermediate "step" cut of 1” adjacent to the fairway cut. Rough mowing is at approximately 1 ½” to 2" with some seasonal variation. There are seventy-five bunkers on the course. Twenty-eight of these bunkers are adjacent to the fairway, and the remaining forty-seven bunkers are classified as "greenside bunkers".

Practice Facilities
The course has excellent practice facilities, consisting of a short game practice area with practice bunker, a large 16,000 s.f. practice putting green adjacent to the short game practice area, a 6,000 s.f. practice putting green adjacent to the pro shop, a small chipping green, and a night-lighted practice range with 26 tee stations, target greens with laser-measured flagsticks and a large grass tee used on weekends.

The range is open at 7:00 a.m. daily with the exception of Wednesdays, when the range opens at 11:00 a.m. Buckets of balls are dispensed in three sizes (large, medium and warm-up) from two automated ball-dispensing units. The practice range hours of operation change based on the season of the year. The closing time may be as late as 8:00 p.m. or as early as 6:00 p.m. Call the Pro Shop at (650) 903-4653 if you need specific closing times.

Pro Shop
The pro shop is fully stocked, and prices are competitive with or better than other courses and retail merchandisers. The course has a fleet of 76 powered golf cars for rental to those who wish to ride golf cars. Alternatively, golfers can use pull carts or pack their bags except for tournaments, where powered carts are required in order to maintain an acceptable pace of play. Rental clubs and rental pull carts are also available. On-course rest rooms are located at #7 tee on the front nine and at #13 tee and #17 green on the back nine. Drinking fountains are also located at these rest rooms. There is an additional rest room at the practice facility.

Advisory Greens Committee
The Shoreline Golf Links Advisory Greens Committee is comprised of one representative each from the Shoreline Seniors, Shoreline Women's and Shoreline Golf Clubs and two Members at Large. The Club representative is selected by each club and the two Members at Large are appointed by the Mountain View City Council. The Advisory Greens Committee facilitates two-way communication between golfers and city staff. The committee meets, as needed, the third Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the Shoreline Golf Links Conference Room. Call 650-903-6178 to confirm meeting dates/times.

Michaels Restaurant
Adjacent to the pro shop is Michaels Restaurant, which was completed in 1993. Michaels Restaurant offers interior seating for 100 in the lounge/grille, banquet seating for 240, outside patio seating for 120, and a snack bar/express window to serve golfers en route to the back nine. A telephone extension from the ninth tee allows orders to be placed so as to be ready upon completion of the ninth hole. Michaels serves everything from a box lunch to a complete banquet dinner for golf tournaments that wish to have high-quality food and beverage service along with the event. Call (650) 962-1014 for more information.
