Neighborhood and Housing Division

Neighborhoods handles a variety of neighborhood and housing-related issues, including affordable housing; the Below Market Rate (BMR) Housing Program, a volunteer mediation program for neighborhood and tenant/landlord disputes, the Neighborhood Grant Program and other activities that support housing opportunities and promote quality neighborhoods. The Neighborhoods Division is also responsible for staffing the Council Neighborhoods Committee (CNC) who holds neighborhood meetings throughout the City.

This Division administers the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME) Federal funds allocated to the City by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These funds benefit primarily low- and moderate-income citizens through funding of affordable housing projects and community services and improvements.

Housing Element Public Hearing
The next public discussion of the Housing Element is the Environmental Planning Commission meeting of August 20. EPC meetings are located in the Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 500 Castro Street, at 6:00pm.
