Police Explorers

MVPD's Explorers are young citizens (ages 14-21) who volunteer to assist the department in providing police services to the community. The program is a great way to explore a future career in law enforcement, or just an enjoyable way to provide community service. It's also a terrific opportunity to learn about leadership, teamwork and responsibility.

Explorers attend an 8-session academy where they receive training in:
  • Patrol procedures
  • First aid
  • Radio communications
  • Search and rescue
  • Criminal law
  • Traffic control
The Explorers Program also sponsors social functions, field trips and tours. Explorers go on ride-alongs with officers and may assist them in the field. Some of the duties Explorers perform include:
  • Traffic control
  • Community and special event support
  • Child fingerprinting
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Crime prevention projects
  • Assistance with police dogs training program
  • Assistance with youth programs
  • Tobacco and alcohol decoy programs
Explorers meet once a month, on a weekday evening. At meetings, Explorers discuss business, schedule activities, and participate in training. MVPD provides Explorers with all necessary equipment.

To learn more about the program, please join us at one of our meetings:
6:30 p.m.
First & third Wednesdays (each month) at MVPD.
Parents may attend with a child on the first meeting.
