Crime location determines where a crime is reported. If a crime took place outside Mountain View, report it to the police department/sheriff's office for the location it occurred in. When uncertain where the crime occurred, contact the department where you live.

Before an online report will be accepted, MVPD requires identifying information from the reporter, because:- The District Attorney's office requires complete victim identification before considering a case for prosecution.
- MVPD must report crimes to state and federal agencies that require complete victim identification.
- If a victim wants a copy of a police report, MVPD must verify their identity before releasing it. (Copy fees apply.)
- Requiring this information helps eliminate false reports.
The information you provide is confidential. It can only be shared with individuals who have a legal right to access it.

Online Reporting Instructions- Use online reports only for the crimes/incidents indicated. If what you wish to report does not fit these forms, please report it by telephone or in person.
- Only use these forms to report incidents that occurred in Mountain View. If it occurred elsewhere, contact that location's police agency.
- Please complete as many report fields as possible. If you have only partial information (e.g. part of a license number or one detail of a person's description), please give us whatever you have!
- If you need to report more than one type of incident, please complete a separate form for each.
