Property Engravers

If your home or business was burglarized, would you be able to identify your property? If the police found your IPOD in the custody of a burglar, would anyone know it belonged to you? Easy identification of property ensures the best-possible chance of getting your property back, in case of loss or theft, and helps law enforcement solve property crimes.

Operation Identification
Operation identification is a simple crime-prevention method: Engrave your drivers license number, or business name, on every piece of valuable property, such as electronics, appliances and computer equipment. Doing so has three benefits:
  1. The value of your property to thieves is decreased, because it can readily be identified as stolen.
  2. A burglar can't explain away three TVs in his back seat, if they've got your ID number engraved on them.
  3. When property is found or recovered, it can easily be returned to you.
An example shows how property identification can aid police. Let's say an officer sees a driver behaving suspiciously three blocks from your house. The driver's car is filled with electronics equipment and PCs. Your license number is on some of the items. You may get a call asking if you loaned your DVD player to someone. We may be able to make an arrest before you even report the crime.

MVPD loans engravers, free of charge. You may keep them for two weeks. No deposit is required. An engraver is easy to use. Just plug it in and write with it like a pen. It may take a little practice to write neatly.

Engrave property with CA drivers license number, or CA ID card number, which are easily traceable by the police department. Don't use social security numbers. They're not as easy to trace and too useable for identity theft.
